Research shows that an average person in Britain consumes 5847 slices of Pizza in the lifetime. It is good to see that I am above the average for a change as I easily surpass that.

So, what are the toppings that people would like to have on all those pizzas? The crown for the most ordered topping goes to Mushroom, followed by Pepperoni as shown in different polls carried out in the UK.

What about the Pizzas themselves? What are the most commonly ordered Pizzas? It seems that Pepperoni Pizza tops the chart followed by Margherita (Cheese and Tomato) and Hawaiian (Ham and Pine Apple) Pizza. Meatfeast, BBQ, Four Cheese and Vegetarian were the other commonly ordered Pizzas with Seafood receiving less interest.

Now you may think that this so much loved meat product is of Italian origin, but Pepperoni is in fact an American product. When Italian migrants began flowing to the US in early 20th century they combined Italian flavour traditions with American ingredients. The first mention of the word Pepperoni occurred around 1920 when the new ingredient appeared in some pizzerias in Lower Manhatan in New York.
